The Lewis Group Architects was commissioned by Knoxville Community Development Corporation and Realty Trust Group to design a new 28,000 square foot office building in the historic Mechanicsville Commons area that would compliment the revitalized neighborhood around it. Using recently developed Traditional Neighborhood Design Guidelines; LGA designed this two-story structure to appear as a turn-of-the-century commercial building. Even though the building is for a single tenant, the street façade, which spans almost an entire block, is subdivided into multiple sections using a variety of materials, colors, and window variations to suggest a series of storefronts. The landscaping of this project is consistent with that of the ongoing adjacent neighborhood redevelopment. In 2003, the project was awarded a Metropolitan Planning Commission Design Award.
