First "Green Houses" in Tennessee Open in Jefferson County
Friday May 07, 2010

LGA was hired for an addition and renovations to the existing nursing home but through research and a newly developed concept, proposed the idea of Green Houses, the end result is the new Mount Vista Village, which are the first Green Houses in the State of Tennessee. The Green House Concept takes the model of the long-term care facility in a completely new direction. It is a fresh approach to providing long term, skilled care to the elderly and disabled in a setting that is in many ways opposite to that of the common nursing home, but one that has been proven to provide better health and quality of life to residents. These home-like dwellings house no more than ten residents and are centered around the main eating and living areas. Menu planning and cooking are participatory events for the residents. An in-house caregiver helps residents organize daily activities and manages patient care in each Green House. Each resident lives in a private room with a private bathroom. And finally, a walkable, garden-like setting void of unpleasant parking lots or service areas surrounds each house. Along with the 3 Green Houses there will also be renovations to the current facility.
