At the center of one of the oldest neighborhoods in Knox County, it was very important to the Knox County Public Library system that this branch library insert itself seamlessly into the surrounding historic neighborhood. The 11,500 sq. ft. facility, with its brick and precast concrete exterior, composite slate roof treatment, traditional detailing, and colonnade outstretched to meet passersby, offers a charming invitation to enter and browse the stacks. The open interior houses adult and children's areas discreetly segregated through the minimal use of glazed partitions, furniture arrangements, ceiling treatments, and innovative decorative accents. This library won the Award of Excellence from the Metropolitan Planning Commission in 2005.
