The Thornton Athletics Student Life Center offers academic support to University of Tennessee student-athletes. It is prominently located on Volunteer Boulevard near athletic facilities such as the adjacent Tom Black Track, lecture halls, and residence halls. The three-story structure contains offices and classrooms, two large tutoring rooms accommodating up to 100 people, and several smaller tutoring rooms for groups of five to ten. The first level also facilitates a computer lab for seventy-eight computer stations and a gallery to recognize former student-athletes. The design of the facility observes the architectural design guidelines issued by the university, which aim to enrich an existing context of masonry campus structures, while also including elements of distinctive character such as the curved concrete entrance wall and the large glass block window.
