The new regional headquarters for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is a replacement facility for the current one in downtown Knoxville.  The new building designed to allow for future expansion, houses state-of-the-art forensic laboratories and related facilities for drug chemistry analysis, DNA and serology, toxicology, and breath alcohol testing as well as field investigation units.

The buildings highly sensitive nature, both in terms of security and laboratory activities, requires carefully designed building systems and architectural elements.  Lightness and transparency are introduced into the building in non-sensitive areas through glass walls and light towers as a way of offering the public glimpse inside, and as a way of bringing natural light into the center of the building.
