The Lewis Group Architects was commissioned by Knoxville Community Development Corporation and Realty Trust Group to design a new 28,000 square foot office building in the historic Mechanicsville Commons area that would compliment the revitalized neighborhood around it. Using recently developed Traditional Neighborhood Design Guidelines; LGA designed this two-story structure to appear as a turn-of-the-century commercial building. Even though the building is for a single tenant, the street facade is broken up into multiple storefronts, using a variety of materials, colors, and window variations. The design and landscaping of this project blend in with the ongoing adjacent neighborhood redevelopment, and in 2003 won a Metropolitan Planning Commission Design Award.
