Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Lewis graduated from The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1979. He started his professional career with Yearwood + Johnson Architects in Nashville where he was first exposed to school design. After a year, he relocated to Knoxville and worked for the firm Galloway & Guthrey, Inc. until he founded his own firm in 1982, which later became known as Lewis Group Architects.
Under his leadership, the firm has a culture that promotes a collaborative approach to design with a focus on specialization of project type. In addition to creating a company that is consistently ranked as one of the largest firms in East Tennessee, his oversight has produced several project publications and numerous design awards for the firm, including the American Institute of Architects, Tennessee School Board Association, Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC), among others. He is a past board member of the AIA East Tennessee Chapter and a member of the Council for Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI). With a wide range of project types to his credit, Mr. Lewis is most recognized for his design efforts in the area of education and healthcare.
